SCOPE OF WORK
Lekir Bulk Terminal, located in the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is one of the Longest Jetty in Sea East Asia. It is about three hours drive north of Kuala Lumpur.
The marine structures consist of the following :
- 540 m long unloading wharf, capable of berthing Capemax vessels up to 160,000 DWT.
- 2,028 m long approach trestle.
- Single mooring dolphin with access from the wharf.
- Small boat berth suitable for tugs and line boats.
This terminal is built to handle the import and export of approx. 52 MillionTons of Coal annually mainly for the Proposed Power Station nearby.
LTE teamed up with Madsen Giersing Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd based in Australia to undertake the consultancy works for the project.
A lot of consideration was given to constructability issues and extensive use of precast concrete was used.
The trestle consists of precast prestressed concrete T-girders (spanning 33.5 m) with insitu concrete topping, supported on insitu concrete headstocks. The substructure consists of circular hollow spun prestressed concrete piles.
The terminal has been completed and in operation since June 2002.
